Afy Door

A traditional Omani door with decorative portal in the village of Afy in Al-Batinah South Governate. The door was manufactured in the workshop of Hamad Al-Farsi in the nearby town of Nakhal, while the portal is the work of Mohammed bin Masood Al-Hilali.

Al-Awabi Door

An impressive entrance portal in Al-Awabi, Al-Batinah South Governorate. The portal is the work of Ahmed bin Malik Al-Ma'awali (1916-1993), while the actual door came from the workshop of Hamad Al-Farsi in Nakhal. The inscription in the tympanum mentions the owner of the house, Shaikhan bin Abdullah, and gives the date of completion in the Abjd Alphanumerical System, in which numbers are represented by letters. The date is Jumada al-Awaal “د ف ش خ”, in which corresponding to September 1964 CE.

The Door of Al-Hazm Fort

The great door of Al-Hazm Fort in Al-Batinah South Governorate. The fort was the stronghold of Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Sultan Al-Ya'arubi, who ruled Oman from 1711 to 1718.

Al-Hazm Fort Door Inscription

The inscription on the left leaf of the great door to Al-Hazm Fort in Al-Batinah South Governorate. It reads, "For the esteemed leader of the Muslims, Sultan bin Saif bin Sultan [Al-Ya'arubi], may Allah grant him victory." Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Sultan Al-Ya-arubi ruled Oman from 1711 to 1718. His grave is inside Al-Hazm Fort.

Al-Hazm Fort Door Inscription

The inscription on the right leaf of the great door to Al-Hazm Fort in Al-Batinah South Governorate. It reads, "The door was made in Sarab [s-r-b] in the second half of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in the year 1126 [A.H.]" The place of manufacture, s-r-b, is unclear, though the style of carving is clearly Indian.
